Women are the primary resource of the planet. They give birth, we come from them. They are mothers, they are visionaries, they are the future. If we can figure out how to make women feel safe and honor women, it would be parallel or equal to honoring life itself."

Meet Your Mighty Sponsors: Sarah Bamford Seidelmann

One thing to remember is to talk to the animals. If you do, they will talk back to you. But if you don't talk to the animals, they won't talk back to you, then you won't understand, and when you don't understand you will fear, and when you fear you will destroy the animals, and if you destroy the animals, you will destroy yourself. - Chief Dan George, Tsleil-Waututh (1899 - 1981)

http://followyourfeelgood.com/At Mighty Girl Art™, we often look to nature for inspiration and wisdom.   I have been trying to retrace my steps to find the path that led me to Sarah Seidelmann, but the only thing I can remember is that someone said, "Wendy, I read this book that reminded me of you".  I bought that book straight away and was altogether delighted.

Sarah is a physician turned shamanic healer and life coach.  This is particular interesting to me because I spent 25+ years working in medicine to support my art-making before I decided to find my own way of combining art and wellness by creating Mighty Girl Art™.   Naturally, I wanted to connect with Sarah and introduce her work to the girls.   I'm so glad that I did.

Dear Mighty Girls,

I want to invite you to CREATE every single day! If you do that in you will most certainly change the world by leaving your beautiful mark on it. Journal! Scribble! Braid! Bake! Dance! And remember to hunt for beauty because it's everywhere:). You were born to FREAK. You were born to express yourself in 1 million different ways. In ways that the earth has never seen before. So go forth and be art!

P.S. With the Beasties by your side there is nothing you cannot do, be or create:).

In peace and pachyderms,
Sarah

* I should also mention that I have Sarah's handy & dandy app on my iphone...

Meet Your Mighty Sponsors: Chronicle Books & Artist, Lisa Congdon

Chronicle Books is one of my favorite publishing houses because they offer a wonderful selection of art & design books.  This year, the generous spirits of Chronicle have sent the girls an inspiring new book by one of my favorite artists, Lisa Congdon.

And now a message from your Mighty Sponsors:

“Here at Chronicle Books, we’re inspired by readers like you who dare to dream big and still believe in the magic of books. Thank you for being you and for seeing things differently with us!” - Irene Kim for Chronicle Books

"Girls, don't forget to LIVE every day of your lives! And stay curious!" - Lisa Congdon

Meet Your Mighty Sponsors: Hint Mint

http://www.hintmint.com/

A long LONG time ago, I was standing in line to buy a book when I saw a swell package of mints on the counter.  I read the ingredients and was elated to see that they were vegetarian and did not contain gelatin.  The only thing that bothered me was that the lovely tin had the book store's co branding on it.  SO...I grabbed a sharpie and wrote the name of the company on my hand and peddled my bike back to my Battery Park City flat where I googled the owner of the company.  I sent him an email that went something like this...

Dear Cooper,
I discovered your mints today at a local bookstore in NYC.  I love that that they are vegetarian and I love that they come in a cool metal tin and not plastic.  The only reason I didn't buy them is because of the co-branding.  I realize that this is my own issue, and I have been known to employ a sharpie marker to remove obvious branding from my clothing.  However, I was wondering if you are selling your mints somewhere that does NOT have the co-branding.
Sincerely,
Wendy

WELL....he wrote me back.  Yes, he did!  He also sent me a case of mints WITHOUT the co-branding.  Thus began a correspondence and friendship that has spanned 15 years.  Dare I say I have not since seen a package of Hint Mints with co-branding!  Not only that, Hint Mint also began an Artist Series wherein they engage artists to design art for limited edition tins!

Cooper is one of the most extraordinary human beings I know, and I thank my lucky stars to have connected with him.  I'm also grateful to Sharpie because that ink not only survived a bike ride from Astor Place to Battery Park City so that I could send that fated email, but I spent the next couple of days with Hint Mint scrawled across my left hand.

And now a message from Cooper Bates....

Dearest Mighty Girl Artists,

I am delighted to share my art and expression with you.  Hint Mint was created because we believed we could make the world a better place by spreading beauty around the world through something as simple as a tin of mints.  What I did not foresee were the friendships I would form through the gift of sharing.  I share with you now in hopes that you too will be inspired to share your gifts and talent with the world.  If you are in the Mighty Girl Art world, you are off to a great start.  If you feel inspired, please drop me a line, Cooper@hintmint.com.  I would love to hear what you think of Hint Mint.  Don't be shy about sharing your work either.

Happy creating,

Cooper Bates

Meet Your Mighty Sponsors: Earth Magic

"You block your dreams when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith" - Mary Marin Morrissey

http://www.earthmagic.net/about-dr-steven-farmer/At Mighty Girl Art, we like to take time to connect with nature.  We pay close attention to any creatures that we see near our tipi because we know that all beings are connected.  We ponder what they can teach us and ways they can inspire our creative work.

Dr. Steven Farmer of Earth Magic is a world renowned author, shaman and psychotherapist.  His Children's Spirit Animal stories and cards have received 5 national awards!   Dr. Farmer and his team at Earth Magic would like to send this message to the Mighty Girls:

"Never forget everyone who has ever fulfilled a dream also had a fear.  They proceeded in spite of their fear and you must as well!  Find powerful role models as you travel that beautiful journey called life.  These cards will help your inner wisdom and intuition grow!

Blessings,
The Earth Magic team"

Meet Your Mighty Sponsors

"Creativity takes courage." - Matisse

The Mighty Girl Art summer session is right around the seasonal corner.  We thought we would try something new this year and give your sponsors a moment to send a personal message to you.  We will post messages from more sponsors in the coming weeks.

First up, ecojot!

You may recognize this name because it's on all the wonderful chunky spiral journals that you see my studio.  Ecojot was founded by the brother/sister team, Mark and Carolyn Gavin who wanted to create eco friendly paper products that feature inspirational designs.

A message to you from Daniella De Marco and the ecojot team...

A note to the girls at Might Girl Art:

A favourite quote of ours is by Gandhi: "In a gentle way you can shake the world."

You don't have to be a great leader or rich to help make the world a better place. You just have to be willing. Every little or big effort counts. Use your talent to give you the success you aspire for and help others at the same time.

We hope the journals give you the courage to create whatever it is your heart is telling you to.

All the best,
Daniela & the ecojot team

Stay tuned for more messages from your generous summer sponsors!
