Week 1: Yes!

This morning I awoke grateful for the way we've circled around to another wintry session.  So many memories here in this space.  This year is the last session in this location as I and my family prepare for a move farther west, near the mountains.  I have already been searching for the new location for our Mighty Tipi.  This wintry session is a small session, because I'm juggling many things and wish to be fully present rather than pulled into too many places. 

The girls arrived one by one.  Some have already met from prior sessions.  Some are new to the studio.  One is an alumni who is both creating and helping and adding her own magic to the creative circle.  A mighty dad,  Mr. Z, who is an expert carver and balloon artist popped in to show us his witch mask that he created.  What a delight!






















We warmed up with hot cocoa.  The ceremonial sipping of cacao (or hot chocolate in our case) can be traced back to 1900 BC and was offered in sacred ceremonies by the Mayan and Aztec people.  Chocolate comes from the seeds of the cacao, a sacred plant in some ancient cultures.  Chocolate increases the release of dopamine, endorphins, and Anandamide ( a neurotransmitter that promotes a blissful feeling). 

While waiting to begin, Mighty S drew a sketch of the Story Crow made by artist/writer and friend, Ginnylee Snyder.






















We began the morning designing and creating hand painted mugs.  Creating these vessels is a Wintry Workshop tradition.  The power of simplicity is what makes these mugs so lovely.  It is "Inktober" after all.  The mugs will be fired and ready to use next week.



We then began painting wooden bracelets.  These bracelets can be given as a gift or kept for oneself.  There is something really wonderful about wearing jewelry that you've made yourself.



The bracelets were set aside to dry and then the girls made S'mores while waiting for their parents to arrive.


We missed mighty N, who had a game this weekend.  Cheering her on from afar and looking forward to seeing her soon!
