Week Three : With Light and to Shine
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, "Stay awhile."
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, "It's simple," they say,
"and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine." - Mary Oliver
Today was a cold and blustery day. We filled our mugs with hot cocoa and chatted about our week. "What was your most favorite thing about last week", I asked.
In the morning session, our first project was the salt shaker snow globe - which I forgot to take photos of, but you can see one of them in the prior post. In the afternoon session, we began with talisman necklaces. These tiny potion bottles are filled with edible star glitter. If you sprinkle it on your hot cocoa or tea, they float and look like constellations.
We took a nature walk out to the rock scramble and it sure was invigorating.
For our secondary project we made tiny trees using paper twist ties.
Due to the high winds we were unable to light the fire pit so we tried making s'mores over a beeswax candle.
Dear Mighty Girls,
I hope you have a lovely feast with your family and I will see you in December. If you wish to wrap any of the gifts that you made, bring them with you and we will do that in the studio on our last day.

Wendy
Week Two : By the Light of the Magical Moon
"You are the root of heaven,
the morning star,
the bright moon..." - Rumi
When the girls arrived I asked if they saw the moon last night. Indeed they did and they were as enchanted by it as I was. The moon is especially close to the earth right now. It hasn't been this close since 1948. Tonight will offer another chance and tomorrow is the actual Perigee Moon.
Everyone lined up to fill the mugs that they made last week with hot cocoa.
Our first project of the day was bird's nest photo holders. The nests were given to us by a mighty mom and we were excited to incorporate them into our workshop. I got the idea from these Pottery Barn place card holders.
We then took a refreshing hike. The morning group decided to bring along my pocket microscope to take a closer look leaves and mushrooms. We hiked to one of our favorite parts of the creek and on the way back a few of the girls decided to climb trees.
Our secondary project was an up-cycled snowflake made from cardboard tubes.
The girls wanted to squeeze in another project so we made dry snow globes from salt shakers just like the ones sold in Anthropologie stores.
And always...S'Mores!!!!
Have a great week, girls! Enjoy the Super Moon and I'll see you next week!

Week One : Away From the Rushing World
Winter is the best time
to find out who you are.
Quiet, contemplation time,
away from the rushing world,
cold time, dark time, holed-up
pulled-in time and space
to see that inner landscape,
that place hidden and within.
- David Budbill
It was a beautiful sunny November morning. The fire was crackling in the fire pit while the music played softly in the studio. One by one they arrived and filled their cups with hot cocoa then chatted about all manner of things. Once everyone felt settled and sated, we hiked into the forest for some sketching.

Thoroughly invigorated and eager to start our projects, we headed back to the studio to begin working on our mugs. The mugs will be fired tonight and ready to use next week!
Our afternoon group finished their mugs early so we started a secondary project...paper stars! The girls were very excited about making more stars at home and hanging them in their rooms.
Of course we finished the morning with S'mores...
See you next week, girls!

Wendy
