Women are the primary resource of the planet. They give birth, we come from them. They are mothers, they are visionaries, they are the future. If we can figure out how to make women feel safe and honor women, it would be parallel or equal to honoring life itself."

Day Five: Astonishing Light

I wish I could show you
when you are lonely or in darkness
the astonishing light of your own being.  - Hafiz

We all wondered what creature would visit our tipi on our last day.  Today it was Woodpecker!

Woodpecker is the drummer of the forest.  Woodpecker is a totem of determination and rhythm.  Woodpecker reminds us to notice our natural rhythm, to march to the beat of our own drum.

We began the day with our morning gift.

Today's gift came from Hum-fi Hummingbird Feeders!

Hum-Fi is the brilliant creation of Lisa Durante.  Hum-Fi feeders provide an opportunity to connect with nature in a most beautiful and delightful way, by allowing hummingbirds to eat from your hand!!!

I know the girls will enjoy their encounters this summer and many more to come!

Thank you, Hum-fi, for your generosity and support!

After the excitement of morning gift, we put the final touches on our journals.  We explored 3 different types of image transfers.

Soon the moms would be arriving for our closing ceremony, so we moved straight away into our final project for the week.  This is a project we generally offer in the Wintry Workshop, but I had a request for it this summer...

Wishing Candles.  These candles are traditionally used as prayer candles in churches and altars of many faiths and are used for many purposes.  We decided to use them to light the path toward our dreams and hopes.  We used our transfer images and paint markers to decorate them.

Shortly thereafter, Mothers, grandmothers and sisters arrived for our closing ceremony and celebration.  There was pizza and champagne grapes for all!

Special thanks to Ledo Pizza for the super generous discount on the pies.  Mighty Girl Art is so very grateful for delicious support!!!

Dear Mighty Moms,
Thank you for blessing me with the gift of your amazing daughters.  They are precious, creative and soulful beings.  It was an honor to assist them on their creative journey.  I hope that you will explore some of some of the techniques with your daughter - let her inspire you - perhaps in a mother & daughter journal.

Dear Mighty Girls,
Your light is bright and it is an honor to bask in your glow.  Thank you for blessing me with your presence and for allowing me to witness your creative process and your sense of wonder.  Although I will miss you all very much, my heart is overflowing with gratitude for the week we spent together.  Also, know that my studio door and my heart will always be open to you.  If you find yourself in my neck of the woods, please stop by.  You are always welcome.  If you need help with any of the techniques that you learned, your mom knows how to reach me and I will be happy to help.

I hope to see you at the Wintry Workshop...dates to be announced soon!

I would also like to thank Chelsea for everything she does to make our camp run smoothly, and to all the Mighty Girls for pitching in to lend a hand.

Made so & rooted by love,
Wendy

PS - Please support the people who help make Mighty Girl Art so special.  It is our joy to introduce you to consciously made products created by real people.  Each one of our sponsors is a testament to creativity, artistic vision, beautiful craftsmanship and manifesting a dream.  We teach our children that we all have unique gifts to share with the word, that we have a purpose and our own path to follow.  We believe that our sponsors are a good example of what is possible when one masters their craft and turns their dream into a reality.  We are humbled by and grateful for their generosity!

Day Four: Wild and Perfect

'Cause you're beautiful like a flower
More valuable than a diamond
You are powerful like a fire
You can heal the world with your mind
There is nothing in the world that you cannot do
When you believe in you, who are beautiful
Yeah you, who are brilliant
Yeah you, who are powerful
Yeah you, who are resilient.  - India Arie

When we raised the tipi this morning, we smelled the scent of a skunk in the air.  Skunk is a powerful totem animal of protection, independence, and self respect.  Every animal has significance in this world, a purpose and something to teach us.

Meanwhile, Leonard the Bear came to our camp today.  Leonard the Bear belongs to Chelsea's friend, but he likes to travel so she bearnaps him on occasion and takes him to special events.   The name Leonard belongs to my late father, also an artist, so it made me feel as though he was with me.

Today's morning gift came from Demeter Fragrance Library!!!

Demeter Fragrance Library is a family owned company that creates layered scents which evoke memories of time and place.  Demeter uses ingredients derived from natural or renewable resources, no artificial colors, binders, emulsifiers, or phthalates.

In Greek mythology, Demeter is the goddess of the earth, and associated with the seasons.

Thank you, Demeter Fragrance Library, for your generosity and support!!!

The girls got right to work on their journals, adding more more elements.  They explored stamps, oil sticks, and collage.

While the journals dried in the sun, we pondered our wishes for the world and ourselves and wrote them onto leaves.

We also had another visitor, a tiny inchworm!  Inchworm is a totem in many indigenous cultures and is a symbol of transformation.

We took a nature walk to release our leaves into the creek.

Refreshed from our romp, we began working on our secondary project...

Large Paper Flowers!!!

Tomorrow at 11 sharp is our closing ceremony.  Moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters are always welcome.  Pizza party to follow!

Girls don't forget to wear your bracelets and bring your tags!!!

See if you can find Leonard in the photo below...

Day Three: The Great Circle

"Never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.” The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,”
they say, “and you, too, have come
into the world to do this, to go easy,
to be filled with light, and to shine.” - Mary Oliver

Early this morning, the grass in the meadow was still wet from last night's rain.

The girls started to arrive and began adorning themselves with body paint.

Today's morning gifts came from LUSH and Persephenie!!!

Persephenie is a body care line that uses fresh ingredients meticulously crafted in small batches by the hands of the beautiful and brilliant Persephenie Schnyder.

Thank you, Persephenie, for your generosity and support!!!!

LUSH makes bath and body products from organic fruits and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics.  Lush sources their ingredients only from companies that do not conduct or commission tests on animals.  Their products are fresh and handmade, using little or no preservative or packaging, using only vegetarian ingredients.

Thank you, LUSH, for your generosity and support!!!

After morning gifts, we got back to work on our art journals.  The girls explored mono printing directly into their journals with Gel printing plates.

The gel plates were donated by Gelli Arts!   You can purchase your very own gel plate on their site  - and you will want to because they are super fun and extremely versatile!

Thank you, Gelli Arts, for your generosity and support!

While the journals dried in the sun, we took a break and ate snacks.

Mr. Toad hopped by for a visit and the girls decided that he must be our "totem du jour".  So here it goes - the name amphibian means two lives - they begin their lives in water before transitioning to land.  Toad reminds us of the distinct stages we go through in our lifetime.

We decided to begin our secondary project.

Power Bracelets:  Our bracelets are an unbroken circle, a symbol of wholeness and unity.

The history of bracelets is as old as 5000 BCE.  Made of materials like bones, stones and woods, they served religious and spiritual interests.

The girls painted wooden bracelets and when they dry, they will add inspiring words or quotes.

Everything the Power of the World does is done in a circle. The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power whirls. Birds make their nest in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same and both are round. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves. Our tepees were round like the nests of birds, and these were always set in a circle, the nation's hoop.  - Black Elk (Black Elk Speaks, 1961)

The bracelets were a gift from the generous folks at DIY Bangles.  DIY Bangles is a pioneer in unfinished wood bangles made from high quality tropical hardwood.  Thank you, DIY Bangles, for your generosity and support!!!

We all agreed that it was time to go to into the forest and cool off in the creek before taking down the tipi.

Refreshed from Mother Earth, the girls helped close up camp for the day.

I had a special request for a certain project...so we shall do that one tomorrow!

Wendy
