Day Three : Walk Slowly and Bow Often

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks, and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches.

into the world to do this, to go easy,
to be filled with light, and to shine.”

This morning the girls arrived and began adding more details to their walking sticks and Bullroarers while waiting for the others.  Once everyone was settled in we presented the morning gift.






















Today's morning gift came from the generous folks at Magnetic Poetry!  We talked about how poetry is an art form and a tool for self expression.  We talked about how a story sends you traveling slowly to your destination and how the job of the poet is to take a handful of words and make you feel something quickly...how it travels like an express train.  We often use poetry as creativity prompts and inspiration at Mighty Girl Art.   Thank you, Magnetic Poetry!!!

Today the girls explored the print making process in their art journals.  We set up three work stations:

• a station for using gel printing plates and stencils
• a station for using foam stamps with paint
• a station for painting more background layers

The journals were placed in the sun to dry, then we took a short hike in the forest.  We sat by the creek and had a snack.

When we returned we began a secondary project.  We used old maps and storybook pages to create paper beads.  These beads will be used to make a Wayfinder necklace / bracelet tomorrow.

Today we also saw hummingbirds during our break, found a hawk feather, and one of our Mighty Girls correctly identified wood sorrel, a sour lemony edible.  Way to go!

Dear Mighty Girls,

Try to make some more paper beads at home today and bring them with you to camp tomorrow so that we can complete the project.  Try not to get frustrated and remember that you are learning a new skill and it takes practice.
